Overview
As the Creative Director of our interaction design team, I had the privilege of leading a multidisciplinary group of user experience designers, graphic designers, and collaborating closely with our industrial design counterparts on the groundbreaking Skai project. Developed in partnership with Alaka’i Technologies, Skai represents a pioneering leap in urban air mobility as the first hydrogen-powered eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle designed for everyday air transportation.
Our primary objective was to design a premium vehicle experience that seamlessly integrates both physical and digital elements, ensuring a holistic user journey from start to finish. We began by conceptualizing the vehicle from the inside out, utilizing physical mock-ups enhanced with virtual reality capabilities. This approach allowed us to explore and evaluate multiple configurations efficiently, ensuring that the design was both innovative and user-centric.
In parallel, our team developed an intuitive app prototype to complement the Skai Cab service. This app enables users to hail a Skai vehicle, input destinations, and select travel preferences, such as air-pooling or private flights. The app guides users to nearby pickup locations, facilitating a seamless and enjoyable journey. This digital interface was designed to be user-friendly, reflecting our commitment to simplicity and human-focused experiences.
By harmonizing the efforts of our interaction design team with the industrial design vision, we ensured that every touchpoint—both physical and digital—was thoughtfully crafted. This collaborative approach resulted in an air mobility solution that is not only technologically advanced but also deeply attuned to the needs and expectations of modern users, setting a new standard for the future of transportation.
